Wheat Trials Confirm Greenseeker Benefit for Farmers

Deemed by USDA As 'Revolutionary Approach'

Ukiah, Calif. - NTech Industries, the world leader in optical sensors for precision fertilizer applications, announced today that Oklahoma State University (OSU) agriculture scientists have confirmed initial projections that the GreenSeeker selective spray system adds more than $10 in new farm revenues for every acre of winter wheat produced.

GreenSeeker uses an optical sensor and microprocessor to measure a plant's health and vigor, then delivers--in a fraction of a second--the precise amount of fertilizer needed to maximize crop yield.

Seven farms and 500 acres in southwest and north central Oklahoma were involved in the winter wheat trials, which were conducted by the research team at the OSU Agricultural Experiment Station, Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service (CRESS).

GreenSeeker averaged an increase in yield of 2.4 bu/ac with 37.4 lbs. less Nitrogen fertilizer compared to the farmer practice.

"Using the GreenSeeker system we showed actual revenue improvements of $13 per acre resulting from a combination of savings on nitrogen and yield improvements when compared to the farmer practice," explained NTech Agronomist Robert Mullen, Ph.D. Dr. Mullen, who worked helped coordinate the project, was a member of the OSU team that developed GreenSeeker in conjunction with NTech.

Last year at ceremonies in Washington, D.C., USDA Secretary Ann M. Veneman honored the GreenSeeker research team "for developing the most revolutionary approach in a century to fertilizing crops with GreenSeeker computerized sensor equipment that read the crop needs and sprays accordingly and immediately."

When the agricultural ministers from 180 nations met this past June in Sacramento to discuss strengthening global food security, GreenSeeker was chosen to represent the USDA's CRESS program at the first annual Ministerial Conference and Expo on Agricultural Science and Technology. Secretary Veneman wanted to illustrate the way the extension program works through land grant universities to create new agricultural technology for the public, according to an OSU spokesman.

NTech Industries, headquartered in Ukiah, California, is the world leader in optical sensors for agricultural research, precision fertilizer applications, and weed and pest control for military and civilian uses. NTech products represent break-through technology with important revenue generation and environmental benefits.
